Navigating the Waves of Recovery
Day 2: From Hangover to Hope
Join me as I dive into the second day of rehab, where the struggle is real, but the determination is even stronger. Let’s explore the highs and lows of this journey together.
The Rollercoaster of Day Two
A Sobering Reality Check
Day two in rehab was like waking up on a rollercoaster I didn’t remember boarding. The morning started with a headache that could rival a jackhammer, but a strong cup of coffee and a few laughs with fellow rehabbers lightened the mood. As the day progressed, I found myself swinging between moments of clarity and bouts of frustration. The group therapy session was a mix of tears and laughter, as we shared stories that were both heartbreaking and hilariously relatable. It’s amazing how humor can be a lifeline when you’re knee-deep in the muck of recovery.
In the afternoon, we tackled a creative writing exercise that had us penning letters to our past selves. Mine was a mix of apologies and promises, with a dash of sarcasm for good measure. By the end of the day, I felt a strange sense of accomplishment. Despite the emotional rollercoaster, I was one step closer to reclaiming my life from the grips of addiction.
Embrace the Power of Laughter
Today, I learned that laughter truly is the best medicine. Whether it’s sharing a funny story or finding humor in the absurdity of our situations, laughter helps to lighten the emotional load and build camaraderie among us.
Mindfulness Over Mayhem
Practicing mindfulness was a game-changer. Taking a few minutes to breathe deeply and focus on the present moment helped me manage the chaos in my mind and stay grounded in reality.
Journaling as a Journey
Writing down my thoughts and feelings became a therapeutic outlet. It allowed me to process emotions and reflect on my progress, providing a clearer perspective on my recovery journey.
Building a Support Network
Connecting with others in the same boat was invaluable. Sharing experiences and offering support to one another created a sense of community and accountability that is crucial for recovery.
"Sometimes the best therapy is a good laugh, even if it's at your own expense."
– Rehab Mike
Reflecting on Day 2: Laughter and Lessons
Day 11: Hiking and Visits
Same morning routine. My sister came to visit at 9am. We took the Druggy Buggy (its a Kia Carnival minivan) up to Three Sisters Falls going the back way - 8 miles of badly maintained dirt roads. Did some hiking and head back down to the Villa through Julian. It was...
Day 10: AA vs SMART
Woke up just after 3am and couldn't get back to sleep. Took a lot of effort to get to the gym and do a mile on the treadmill and sauna. Sad day in the house... the other guy has left the villa this morning. We had a good session going over the difference between AA...
Day 9: The Anonymous People
I got 3 miles on the treadmill in the morning before my first meeting. Today is the last day for the other guy at the Villa. It's exciting for him, but very sad for the rest of us; but we pan to keep in touch and meet up once I'm in PHP. That brings it down to just 3...
